Banner Bank Downtown

From an interior design perspective, the interiors of the new Boise City Hall West accomplishes several key goals.  First and foremost is the integration of the Boise Police Department and the Fire Administration and Training components.  Much of the integration has been accomplished through thoughtful space planning.  In addition, the mission of “cohesive yet separate” can be experienced through color and finish selections and placement throughout this 93,000 square foot building.  Flooring that complements the existing flooring, and careful placement of the new flooring to create integration and flow also captures this dynamic.  Angled soffits, wall niches and tile patterns carry the architectural theme throughout the building.

The shared Lounge area and Break area provides a unique opportunity to bring both departments into a shared space on an informal level.  Most employees of these departments deal with stress above and beyond the average person.  Therefore, the idea of a truly relaxing area where people can gather to de-stress, talk or just have an introspective moment is very important.  This area utilizes soothing, relaxing colors and lowered areas in the ceiling to help create smaller clusters of seating…. creating an environment of “re-freshing.”  By integrating graphics from both departments, we have encouraged community.  By contrast, the concept of the break area will be that of “re-fueling”…..bright colors and energy to help employees re-energize for their day.  The entrances to these spaces are very open to encourage employees to partake in this inviting atmosphere.

The open landscape offices have been enhanced by “stair-stepping” glass panels at different heights to allow natural daylight into the workstations while creating visual interest and privacy.  This treatment helps to foster the culture of collaboration and solidarity between Fire and Police.  A color palette of warm neutrals with bolder accents creates a vibrant sense of place.  The lobby design helps to set the stage for the public and visitors.  Taking its cue from the exterior architecture and art, we have designed floor patterns, display niches, a ceiling layout and gathering areas that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
